The little town of Pontypool lies North East of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This image is of the still remaining grain elevator and original train tracks that remind us of a rich history that tells the story of one portion of Canadian immigrants. This rural town was once a summer resort town for thousands of Jewish immigrants who lived and worked in the city of Toronto in the 1930's,1940's, and 1950's. Families who were not accepted at Toronto beaches, and had little resources for expensive vacations would pack into trains on the weekends to get out of the suffocating city and into the fresh air. Fathers would commute while mothers and their families may have stayed up north for a week or two; and the owners of the Pontypool resort would bring in Kosher meals and provide social and physical activities for the entire vacationing community.
