Honest Eds was a landmark in downtown Toronto, offering household items, clothes, and food at discount prices since the 1940's. In 2017, the store closed, and the demolition began in the fall. The famous signage is being taken down, and hopefully preserved for posterity. The store was named after its owner, Ed Mirvish, who also contributed greatly to the Bloor Street community and helped to develop the theatre district on King Street West. There were 23,000 bulbs above the famous Bloor Street West and Bathurst Street discount store spread out over 12 exterior signs.
This image would make a great gift for the collector of all things Toronto.
This art was chosen as part, of a Special Feature Series in the “Red Maple Gallery”,, accompanying my BATHURST STREET CAR COMING NORTH TO QUEEN STREET, photograph, an award winning artwork, of the GEORGE F. G. STANLEY AWARD and SPECIAL FEATURE.
SILVERVISION FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY, PAINTING, AND PHOTOART ---- Some artists have carved for themselves a distinct place in the art world. They create work of a certain genre or stick to one style for which they are internationally known. I am not satisfied as an artist unless I am trying new techniques and creating a variety of works. Welcome to my world as I see it from behind the lens of a camera, the end of a paintbrush, or some creative manipulation of images on the computer. As an artist and an educator, I have an interest in sharing my passions. I hope that my images can make others happy, or make them see something a little differently. I'd like my artwork to find a place in your heart and home and for you to get as much...
