Description
In the late 1800's many of Toronto's wealthiest families built summer homes on the Toronto Islands, now known as Ward's, Algonquin, Centre Island, and Hanlan's Point. To this day, there are still homes situated on the islands, and many residents live there year-round. If you live in the City, it is common to take a trip to the islands in the summer and you can walk or bike through the old neighbourhoods. Many of the original homes have not been renovated or modernized, leaving a quaint charm to the neighbourhood. I found this old world mailbox and delightful picket fence on a bike tour through Algonquin Island, in the summer of 2017. That spring, heavy rains had flooded the island, and residents were still dealing with repairs and preservation of their old properties.
