Description
Canada no longer uses pennies for currency; so this image, taken from a creatively designed floor in a Guelph restaurant, shows how they have been re-purposed for one unique fashion. There are 200 pennies in the photo, and two water drops. But that's not all. Can you find the one coin that doesn't belong? And... if you think I counted wrong, please let me know.
In addition, how many American (U.S.) pennies can you find in the image?
A Canadian penny was worth 1/100 of a Canadian dollar (Loonie). Production of the Canadian penny ceased in May, 2012, and the Royal Canadian Mint ceased the distribution of them as of February 4, 2013. The official national term of the coin was the "one-cent piece", but in practice the terms penny and cent were most commonly used. Originally, "penny" referred to a two-cent coin. When the two-cent coin was discontinued, penny took over as the new one-cent coin's name. The name penny was probably adopted because the previous coinage in Canada (up to 1858) was the British monetary system.
